Scammers trick Kalvarija resident out of nearly €10,000

A 53-year-old man in Kalvarija lost €9,879 to scammers after clicking a fraudulent payment link, Lithuania’s Police Department reported on Monday.

The victim, born in 1973, contacted Marijampolė County Police on Saturday to report the incident. According to his statement, an unknown individual sent him a link around 7 p.m. that day, ostensibly for purchasing a product. After entering his online banking credentials, the scammers drained his account.

A pre-trial investigation has been launched into the case.

Police have not disclosed further details about the ongoing probe.
