Fraudsters posing as bank staff and police officers scam €10,100 in Panevėžys

Fraudsters impersonating bank employees and police officers have scammed a 73-year-old woman out of €10,100 in Panevėžys, Lithuanian National Radio and Television (LRT) reports, citing police sources.

The incident occurred on May 8 around 5 p.m. when unknown individuals called the woman at her home, speaking in Russian. They claimed to be bank staff and police officers, then deceived her into transferring the money.

A similar case was reported in Alytus, where a 75-year-old man lost €3,500 on the same day. The victim told police that an unidentified man, posing as a bank employee, visited his home on Topolių Street around 3 p.m. and defrauded him of the sum.

Preliminary investigations for fraud have been launched in both cases.
