Scammer steals €10,500 from elderly woman in Raseiniai

A scammer posing as a police officer stole €10,500 in cash from an 88-year-old woman in Raseiniai, western Lithuania, police reported Thursday.

The incident began when an unknown caller contacted the woman, born in 1938, at her home, claiming to be a police officer. The caller told her that her son-in-law had been in an accident and demanded €1,500. Later that day, at 14:20, a man arrived at her home, forcibly took €10,500 from her hands, and fled.

Police confirmed the woman suffered a total financial loss of €12,000. A pre-trial investigation into fraud has been launched.
