Searches conducted at home and office of Vilnius city administration director Bužinskas

Lithuanian prosecutors have carried out searches at the home and office of Vilnius city administration director Adomas Bužinskas, seeking to question him as a special witness in a pre-trial investigation, LRT and BNS report.

According to prosecutors, a decision was made on April 10 to question Bužinskas as a witness who may provide testimony about his own potentially criminal actions. The searches were conducted by the Vilnius County Chief Police Commissariat’s Economic Crimes Investigation Board under articles of the Criminal Code related to abuse of office and dereliction of duty.

Bužinskas confirmed the searches in a Facebook post on Thursday, stating that police took only his grandmother’s tablet computer containing personal photos. He claimed he had not received any summons for questioning, despite authorities alleging he failed to appear for an interview regarding the continued use of a city street standard.

“Today, police officers conducted a search at my home and office,” he wrote. “Preliminary information suggests this was because I did not attend a police interview about the further application of street standards. However, I never received a summons.”

Bužinskas, currently on leave in Spain, linked the investigation to a 2019 street infrastructure standard he signed while serving as deputy director. Though a 2024 court ruling declared the standard invalid for procedural reasons, he stated the administration had already ceased its application and informed staff.

“In 2024, the court ruled these guidelines non-binding,” he said. “The administration was informed, and after authorities confirmed some employees were still applying them, we reminded colleagues again. We thought the matter was closed.”

Police confirmed no charges have yet been filed against Bužinskas. The pre-trial investigation is led by prosecutors from Vilnius Regional Prosecutor’s Office Organized Crime and Corruption Division.

Vilnius municipality has not yet officially commented on the searches.
