Scammers trick Vilnius resident out of over €42,000
A 59-year-old man in Vilnius lost more than €42,000 to scammers after receiving a deceptive email about a payment for construction materials, the Lithuanian Police Department reported on Wednesday.
The victim, born in 1967, informed authorities that he had received the fraudulent message on April 30. The email falsely claimed to be an invoice for building supplies, prompting him to transfer the funds. A pre-trial investigation into the fraud has now been launched.
Police have not disclosed further details about the scam’s origin or whether any suspects have been identified.
