Lithuania’s Central Electoral Commission (VRK) has decided to open an investigation into the financial activities of the Freedom Party following reports of irregular payments, public broadcaster LRT reported on Sunday.
The probe was triggered by an investigation by news portal 15min, which alleged that the non-parliamentary party transferred thousands of euros to individuals linked to the party—including its members who had won public procurement contracts—for various consultations and event organisation.
The VRK has pledged to complete the investigation by July. According to 15min, the Freedom Party has received over €1.5 million in state subsidies since 2021.
