Former LRT ethics controller appointed as defence minister’s strategic communications advisor

The former ethics controller of Lithuania’s national broadcaster LRT, Aistė Žilinskienė, has begun work this week as a strategic communications advisor to Defence Minister Robertas Kaunas, the Defence Ministry announced on Monday.

Žilinskienė will focus on strengthening the ministry’s communication efforts at both national and international levels, according to the statement. “At a time when the security of the country and its citizens is paramount, it is crucial to inform the public clearly and accurately about all ongoing processes and necessary preparations,” she said. “Clear communication helps build public trust in national defence—this is my primary professional goal.”

Žilinskienė, who left her LRT post in April, had served as ethics controller for just over a year after her five-year term appointment in summer 2025. She brings extensive experience in communications, media, and public affairs, having previously worked as a communications advisor to the environment minister and led the Internet Media Association (IŽA) for over a decade.

Her background also includes roles as a public relations consultant, director of the Democracy Support Fund, and membership in multiple ethics and oversight bodies, such as the Prosecutors’ Ethics Commission and the Supreme Election Commission. She holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in communication and information from Vilnius University.
