Peat fire breaks out in Kupiškis district, firefighters deployed

emergency response, fire, KupiškisA large peat fire has broken out in the Kupiškis district, with emergency crews mobilising to contain the blaze, Lithuania’s State Fire and Rescue Service reported on Monday.
The fire was first spotted at 1:23 PM near Bukėnai village, where smoke was seen rising from the Šepeta peat bog, covering an area of 50 hectares. The exact size of the burning zone remains unclear.
Nine fire trucks have been dispatched to the scene, with firefighting efforts currently underway. Authorities have warned of potential air pollution from the fire and advised nearby residents to stay indoors and keep windows closed.
