The Vilnius Regional Prosecutor’s Office has referred the case of Trakai District Municipality Council member and deputy mayor Jonas Kietavičius to court over allegations he falsified expense receipts to claim public funds, LRT reports.

Kietavičius, who denies wrongdoing, told BNS: “I cannot comment on anything now—I will speak in court. I certainly do not admit guilt.”

According to pretrial investigators, between 2019 and 2023, while serving as a council member and from November 24, 2021, as deputy mayor, Kietavičius allegedly abused his official position. Prosecutors claim he submitted falsified advance payment records for council-related expenses, listing inflated fuel costs and attaching receipts from other individuals’ fuel purchases. The fraudulent claims reportedly allowed him to misappropriate €2,000 in municipal funds.

The investigation was led by the Organized Crime and Corruption Division of the Vilnius Regional Prosecutor’s Office, with support from the Special Investigations Service. The case has been assigned to the Trakai Chamber of the Vilnius Regional Court.
