Lithuania blocks 12 irregular migrants attempting to enter from Belarus
Lithuania’s State Border Guard Service (VSAT) reported on Wednesday that 12 irregular migrants attempted to cross into the country from Belarus, according to the national broadcaster LRT.
Latvia’s border authorities prevented 44 migrants from entering the country over the past week, while Poland’s officials recorded no such attempts on Tuesday.
Last year, Lithuanian border guards blocked over 1,600 irregular entries from Belarus, with 662 cases recorded so far this year. Since the start of the Belarus-orchestrated migration crisis in 2021, Lithuania has denied entry to approximately 25,300 irregular migrants.
The influx of migrants toward Eastern EU borders began in 2021, with Western officials accusing Minsk of deliberately facilitating the movement.
