A deer trapped in a metal fence in central Vilnius was freed on Wednesday morning after emergency services and wildlife specialists intervened, LRT reports.

The incident occurred in the courtyard of a residential building on Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis Street. The first report was received at 6:50 AM by the Emergency Response Centre, which logged three separate calls from residents about the trapped animal.

Firefighters from the Fire Protection and Rescue Department arrived at the scene at 8:48 AM but waited for wildlife experts before attempting the rescue. Specialists from the Wild Animal Care Centre arrived from Kaunas at 9:23 AM, administering sedatives to calm the deer. By 9:34 AM, firefighters had successfully freed the animal and transferred it to the care centre’s vehicle.

The Environmental Protection Department collaborates with the Wild Animal Care Centre in such cases, where wild animals become trapped or endangered in urban areas.
