Lithuania and Poland agree to strengthen military cooperation
Lithuania and Poland have pledged to deepen bilateral military ties, with both nations emphasizing the importance of close collaboration for effective collective defence, LRT reports.
This week, a delegation led by Polish Armed Forces Operational Command chief Maciej Klisz visited Lithuania, meeting with Lithuanian Defence Staff Chief Giedrius Premeneckas to discuss enhanced cooperation. Both sides underscored that robust partnership is a “key prerequisite” for ensuring effective joint defence within NATO.
“Lithuania and Poland are bound by strong, trust-based cooperation. Our soldiers regularly train together to effectively execute joint tasks in defending every centimetre of the Alliance,” Premeneckas said in a statement. He added that the visit marks a shared commitment to further strengthen military ties and interoperability.
The talks also covered Lithuania’s ongoing military modernisation, combat readiness improvements, and long-term cooperation initiatives. Officials highlighted the need to bolster NATO’s eastern flank deterrence and implement Alliance defence plans.
Both countries agreed that coordinated regional actions are essential for ensuring rapid response to potential threats. They also stressed the importance of sustained investment in defence capabilities to enhance operational readiness.
Discussions included security assessments of the Kaliningrad region and Belarus, as well as broader Baltic Sea security challenges.
