The Panevėžys Regional Prosecutor’s Office has referred a criminal case against Panevėžys City Council member Indiana Grigienė to court on charges of abuse of office, fraud, and document forgery, Lithuania’s General Prosecutor’s Office announced on Tuesday.

According to pretrial investigation findings, Grigienė is suspected of falsifying 19 expense advance reports between July 2019 and April 2023 while serving as a council member. The reports allegedly contained false information about fuel expenses, claiming they were work-related, and included fuel receipts belonging to other individuals.

The falsified documents were submitted to the municipality’s administration, allowing Grigienė to fraudulently obtain €811 in public funds, investigators said.

The case was investigated by the Panevėžys Regional Prosecutor’s Office Organised Crime and Corruption Investigation Division, with support from the Special Investigations Service. It has now been transferred to the Panevėžys District Court for trial.
