Lithuania proposes judges Drigotas and Spruogis for Venice Commission membership
Lithuania’s Ministry of Justice has nominated Constitutional Court judge Artūras Drigotas and deputy chair of the Supreme Administrative Court Ernestas Spruogis for membership in the Venice Commission, state news agency BNS reported on Saturday.
Drigotas is proposed as a full member and independent expert, while Spruogis would serve as an alternate member. Both appointments require approval by Prime Minister Inga Ruginienė. Member states delegate representatives to the advisory body for four-year terms.
The Venice Commission, a Council of Europe expert panel on constitutional law, currently includes 61 countries. It is reviewing Lithuania’s proposed amendments to the Law on Radio and Television, which would reform governance of the national broadcaster.
The nominations follow the expiration of terms for Lithuania’s previous representatives, Dainius Žalimas (full member) and Inga Milašiūtė (alternate), on April 26.
