Lithuanian president and foreign minister condemn attack in Washington
Lithuania’s president and foreign minister have strongly condemned the armed attack on former US president Donald Trump in Washington, DC, LRT reports.
President Gitanas Nausėda denounced the assault in a statement on social media platform X, writing: “I strongly condemn the attack on President Donald Trump. I am relieved to hear that President Trump and the first lady are safe and unharmed. Political violence is never the answer!”
Foreign Minister Kęstutis Budrys emphasised that “political violence cannot be tolerated under any circumstances.”
The shooting occurred on Saturday at the Washington Hilton hotel during the annual White House Correspondents’ Association dinner. A gunman attempted to force his way past security into the event, firing shots and wounding one security officer. Trump, the first lady, and other administration officials were unharmed and safely evacuated.
