Colleagues gather in Panevėžys to bid farewell to murdered paramedic
A farewell ceremony is underway in Panevėžys for paramedic Mantas Sadauskas, who was killed earlier this week, with nearly 100 medical colleagues and fellow motorcycle enthusiasts attending, LRT reports.
Photographer Orestas Gurevičius told the news agency ELTA that large crowds, including many medics, have gathered at the “Ramybės Takas” funeral home, where Sadauskas will be laid to rest on Sunday at 1 PM local time. The ceremony began on Saturday afternoon.
Sadauskas, known for his passion for motorcycles, was last seen on Monday after informing his family he had received an order to deliver a trampoline for a children’s party at a kindergarten. His body was discovered Tuesday in the Panevėžys district, wrapped in a trampoline and buried on private property. A weapon was found at the scene.
Authorities suspect the killing may have been linked to a personal dispute. Three individuals have been implicated in the case. On Thursday, a court approved a two-month pretrial detention for Sadauskas’ estranged wife, Justina Sadauskienė, who faces charges of murder and unlawful deprivation of liberty.
Another suspect, Ilja Solkan—father of a third suspect, Vilius Solkan—was released on 5,000 euros bail. Vilius Solkan remains in custody under a two-month detention order.
Investigators noted that the customer’s details for the trampoline delivery had been deleted, and local officials confirmed no such kindergarten exists at the address provided.
