Lithuania braces for windy and cold weekend with sleet expected
Lithuania will experience unseasonably windy and cold weather on Sunday, with gusts reaching 25 m/s and possible sleet, the country’s Hydrometeorological Service warned on Saturday.
Strong northwesterly winds of 15–20 m/s—with local gusts up to 25 m/s—will sweep across the country, while daytime temperatures will struggle to rise above 4–9°C, forecaster Vytautas Patašius told national broadcaster LRT. Brief showers are expected, including periods of sleet.
The chilly, blustery conditions will persist into Monday and Tuesday, with scattered rain or sleet showers and overnight frosts in some areas. Wind speeds will remain high, occasionally reaching 15–17 m/s. Daytime highs on Monday will hover between 6–11°C, dipping slightly to 5–10°C on Tuesday.
Warmer, calmer spring weather is forecast to return by midweek as the current cyclone moves away, bringing clearer skies, lighter winds, and higher temperatures, Patašius noted.
