Lithuania will see unsettled spring weather this weekend, with gusty winds on Saturday followed by a significant cold snap on Sunday, the Lithuanian Hydrometeorological Service (LHMS) reports.

Saturday brings windy conditions
Forecasters predict mostly dry weather on Friday night, with light scattered showers possible in some areas. Westerly winds will strengthen, reaching moderate speeds, while overnight temperatures will hover just above freezing in most regions. The coldest conditions are expected near Alytus, Marijampolė, and Druskininkai, where temperatures may drop to 0°C, and in western areas near Mažeikiai and Telšiai, where light frost of –1°C is possible. Ground frost of 1–6°C below zero is likely across much of the country.

Daytime Saturday will see overcast skies with occasional sunbreaks. Brief rain showers are expected, particularly in northern and eastern districts, as southwesterly winds intensify to 15–20 m/s. Highs will reach 11–16°C in most areas, though western regions may see cooler readings of 7–10°C.

Sunday delivers a sharp cooldown
A mass of cold air will push temperatures down sharply on Sunday. Overnight lows will range from 0 to –5°C, with ground frost of 1–6°C in many areas. Daytime highs will struggle to reach 4–9°C, with wind chills feeling even colder due to strong westerly to northwesterly winds. Gusts of 15–20 m/s are expected throughout the day, with some areas seeing peaks up to 23 m/s. Mixed precipitation, including rain and sleet, is likely in many regions.

Early week outlook: wind eases, cold persists
Wind speeds will gradually decrease early next week, though temperatures will remain cool. Monday night will bring clearer skies and lighter northwesterly winds, though gusts may still reach 15–20 m/s in exposed areas. Lows will again drop to 0–5°C, with ground frost of 1–6°C possible. Daytime Monday will see a mix of clouds and sunshine, with scattered showers and highs of 6–11°C as northwesterly winds strengthen once more.

Tuesday will follow a similar pattern, with overnight frost giving way to daytime highs of 5–10°C. Skies will become increasingly overcast, with brief showers expected in many districts and winds again gusting to 15–17 m/s.
