76-year-old woman killed in Utena, suspect detained
A 76-year-old woman was found dead in her apartment in Utena on Thursday morning, with police detaining a heavily intoxicated male suspect, LRT reports, citing the Lithuanian Police Department.
The victim was discovered at around 7 a.m. in a residential building on Taikos Street. The suspect, born in 1976, was arrested with a blood alcohol level of 1.89‰ and placed in custody. Authorities have launched a pre-trial investigation into the killing of a close relative or family member, an offence punishable by eight to 20 years in prison or life imprisonment under Lithuanian law.
Police confirmed the crime occurred in the victim’s immediate surroundings but did not disclose further details about the relationship between the suspect and the victim.
