Jonavos mayor Mindaugas Sinkevičius to seek second term in 2027 local elections

Jonavos district mayor Mindaugas Sinkevičius will run for a second term in next year’s municipal elections, he confirmed in an interview with LRT’s Panorama programme on Thursday, as reported by the BNS news agency.

“Yes, I plan to run,” Sinkevičius said, adding that his main challenge would be managing the district’s urban centres. A member of the ruling Social Democratic Party of Lithuania (LSDP), he has led Jonavos municipality—with interruptions—since 2011.

In the 2023 local elections, the Social Democrats secured 17 of the 25 seats on Jonavos district council. Sinkevičius also heads the party’s campaign headquarters for the 2027 municipal vote, scheduled for spring next year.
