Lithuania turns back 24 irregular migrants at Belarus border

Lithuanian border guards prevented 24 irregular migrants from entering the country from Belarus over the past day, the State Border Guard Service (VSAT) reported on Tuesday.

According to the agency, Latvian authorities also turned away 42 individuals attempting to cross the border illegally on Monday, while Polish officials recorded no such incidents the previous day.

This year, Lithuania has blocked 507 irregular migrants from entering the country. In 2025, there were over 1,600 attempts to cross the border from Belarus at unauthorized locations, compared to 1,002 such attempts in 2024.

Since the start of the migration crisis orchestrated by Belarus, Lithuanian border guards have denied entry to 25,000 foreign nationals attempting to cross illegally. The influx of migrants to Eastern EU member states via Belarus began in 2021, with Western officials accusing Minsk of orchestrating the crisis.
