A 70-year-old woman from Šakiai lost more than €52,000 to telephone scammers posing as bank employees, telecom workers, and police officers, Lithuanian public broadcaster LRT reports.
The victim, born in 1956, contacted the Marijampolė County Chief Police Commissariat on Monday to report the fraud. She stated that on April 9, unknown individuals called her at home, impersonating officials to deceive her into handing over her bank payment card. The scammers then withdrew €52,095 from her account.
