Lithuania to face cooling temperatures and ground frosts in coming days

Lithuania will experience a gradual cooldown with overnight ground frosts reaching as low as -9°C in the coming days, though dry and sunny conditions will persist, the country’s Hydrometeorological Service reported on Sunday.

According to forecaster Teresė Kaunienė, a high-pressure system will dominate early in the week, bringing clear nights with air temperatures dropping to between -1°C and 6°C in most regions. Ground-level frosts could reach -7°C to -10°C in places, while coastal areas may see slightly milder conditions of 0°C to 3°C. Daytime highs on Tuesday and Wednesday will range from 11°C to 16°C inland and 8°C to 10°C along the coast, with northwesterly winds at 6–11 m/s.

A cold cyclonic system arriving from the north on Thursday will introduce cloudier skies, stronger winds, and scattered light rain, primarily in eastern Lithuania. Wind speeds will increase to 15–18 m/s in gusts, with daytime temperatures dropping to a cooler 8°C–13°C. Overnight lows will hover around 1°C–6°C, though ground frosts of -3°C may still occur in some areas.

Similar conditions are expected on Friday, with temperatures dipping further to 7°C–10°C during the day and widespread ground frosts of -1°C to -6°C at night. Rain showers will become more likely across the country, accompanied by fresh northwesterly winds of 9–14 m/s, gusting up to 17 m/s in exposed areas.

The weekend forecast calls for mixed precipitation—primarily rain—and persistent northwesterly winds. Nighttime frosts will continue, with daytime highs struggling to exceed 5°C–9°C.
