Lithuania turns back 32 irregular migrants at Belarus border
Lithuanian border guards prevented 32 irregular migrants from crossing into the country from Belarus last week, the State Border Guard Service (VSAT) reported on Thursday.
According to the agency, Latvian authorities repelled 103 migrants on Wednesday, while Polish officials recorded six attempts on Tuesday. Since the start of this year, Lithuania has blocked 445 irregular migrants at its border.
In 2025, there were over 1,600 recorded attempts to enter Lithuania illegally from Belarus, compared to 1,002 in 2024. Since the start of the migration crisis orchestrated by Belarus in 2021, Lithuanian border guards have denied entry to 25,000 foreign nationals attempting to cross illegally.
The surge of migrants toward eastern EU member states began in 2021, with Western officials accusing Minsk of orchestrating the flows.
