Lithuanian parliament dismisses two Supreme Court judges as their terms expire

The Lithuanian parliament on Thursday dismissed two Supreme Court judges after their terms ended, state broadcaster LRT reports.

Gražina Davidonienė and Virgilijus Grabinskas were released from their positions at the Supreme Court of Lithuania (LAT) following the expiration of their mandates. Davidonienė will leave her post on May 30, having served at the court since 2008. Grabinskas, whose tenure dates back to 1993 with interruptions, will remain in office until September 12.

Under Lithuania’s constitution, Supreme Court judges are appointed and dismissed by parliament upon the president’s proposal. President Gitanas Nausėda has nominated Marius Bajoras, a judge from the Court of Appeal, to fill a vacancy at the Supreme Court starting June 30.
