Vilnius court sentences man to over two years in prison for stalking and terrorising woman

A Vilnius court has sentenced a 41-year-old man to two years and one month in prison for systematically terrorising a woman, issuing death threats, and damaging her property, Lithuanian National Radio and Television (LRT) reports.

The Vilnius City District Court found the defendant, identified only as A. T. (born 1984), guilty of psychological terror, threats to kill or cause grievous bodily harm, and property damage. The ruling follows an earlier conviction in the same case, with the court consolidating the penalties.

According to prosecutors, the man repeatedly subjected the woman to psychological pressure, sending threatening messages in September–October 2024. He vowed to harm her health and kill her, while also vandalising her car. Investigators stated he hurled bricks and concrete blocks at her apartment windows, smashed the glass, and destroyed belongings inside.

In one incident, A. T. arrived at the woman’s home with an accomplice, V. D. (born 1987), who was also convicted for his role in the property damage. The court handed V. D. a two-year restricted freedom sentence with intensive supervision, requiring him to remain at his residence when not working, seek employment or register with the labour exchange, and abstain from psychoactive substances.

Both men had prior criminal records—nine convictions each—and were classified as repeat offenders. The court partially granted civil claims from the victim and an insurance company, ordering the defendants to compensate for material and non-material damages.

The case was heard in closed sessions. The defendants may appeal the first-instance ruling.
