Lithuanian national broadcaster’s ethics chief resigns from post
The ethics controller of Lithuania’s national broadcaster LRT, Aistė Žilinskienė, has announced her resignation, state news agency ELTA reported on Sunday.
Žilinskienė confirmed she had submitted a resignation request but denied any connection to the broadcaster’s current controversies. “I am simply changing jobs,” she told ELTA. “This decision is absolutely unrelated to all the recent complicated developments at LRT.”
Her resignation will be reviewed during a closed session of the LRT Council next week. Žilinskienė has held the ethics controller position since February of last year, overseeing compliance with LRT’s ethical code among its journalists.
The role is appointed for a five-year term through an open competition, with a maximum of two consecutive terms allowed. Recent months have seen heightened public scrutiny of LRT, including debates over proposed legal amendments that would restructure its governance and leadership dismissal procedures.
