A 52-year-old man from Klaipėda lost more than €30,000 after falling victim to an online scam while attempting to purchase a Cadillac Escalade, police reported Thursday.

The victim contacted Klaipėda city police on April 9, stating that he had transferred €30,368 to various accounts in January after seeing an advertisement for the luxury SUV on Alibaba.com, according to the Police Department. The vehicle was never delivered.

Authorities have launched a pre-trial investigation into the fraud. The case follows a pattern of high-value online purchase scams targeting Lithuanian consumers.
