Lithuanian president nominates appeals court judge for Supreme Court position

Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda has nominated Marijus Bajoras, a judge of the Court of Appeal, for a position on the Supreme Court of Lithuania (LAT), state news agency ELTA reported on Wednesday.

The formal decision to propose Bajoras was registered in the Legal Acts Register on Tuesday. His appointment must now be confirmed by the Seimas (parliament) following the president’s nomination.

Bajoras has served in Lithuania’s judicial system since 2002, beginning as an assistant to a judge at the Supreme Administrative Court. He later worked as a judge in Vilnius District Court (2007–2014), the Regional Administrative Court (2014–2018), and the Court of Appeal, where he also chaired the Civil Cases Division.

Earlier in his career, he held legal positions at state energy company Lietuvos Energija (2000–2001) and the Lithuanian Children and Youth Centre (2001–2002).
