Roma flag raised at Vilnius TV Tower to mark International Roma Day
The Roma flag was hoisted at the Vilnius TV Tower on Tuesday to commemorate International Roma Day, Lithuanian public broadcaster LRT reports.
This year marks the 55th anniversary of the flag’s adoption at the first World Roma Congress. Ištvanas Kvikas, chairman of the Lithuanian Roma Community, stated that the occasion provides an opportunity to discuss issues relevant to the Roma people and to reiterate that Roma are equal citizens like all others.
Traditional observances for the day include carrying the flag, singing the Roma anthem, and laying flowers in the Neris River in memory of victims of the Roma genocide.
