The Democratic Union “For Lithuania” and the Mixed Group of MPs in the Seimas have no immediate plans to join the ruling coalition, stating that any potential changes to the government’s composition must first be initiated by the Lithuanian Social Democratic Party (LSDP), LRT reports.

The comments follow President Gitanas Nausėda’s suggestion that the current coalition partners should seek alternatives after some members of the “Nemunas Dawn” party voted against the Kapčiamestis training ground bill. However, Lukas Savickas, senior member of the Democrats’ parliamentary group, clarified that his party has not set any “red lines” against cooperation with the LSDP—but no formal invitation or decision has been made.

“Whether such cooperation would be needed, and in what format, would be a matter for discussion,” Savickas told ELTA, noting that criticism of the government stems from policy decisions rather than the LSDP itself. He added that any talks would only proceed if the Social Democrats definitively ruled out further collaboration with “Nemunas Dawn.”

Meanwhile, Viktoras Fiodorovas, head of the Mixed Group of MPs, stated his faction sees no need to merge with the ruling coalition but remains open to discussions on specific legislation. “We’re comfortable in the Mixed Group and ready for dialogue—if the Social Democrats outline their plans for the remainder of the term,” he said, adding that the group does not “knock on doors” but is willing to engage if approached.

Fiodorovas also questioned whether President Nausėda’s stance on reshaping the coalition was final, citing mixed signals from the head of state.

The current ruling coalition consists of the LSDP, “Nemunas Dawn,” and the Lithuanian Farmers and Greens Union.
