A fire that broke out at the Zabieliškis landfill in Lithuania’s Kėdainiai district on Monday has been localized, though firefighting efforts continue, the BNS news agency reports.

Emergency services received the alert at 11:31 AM, prompting the dispatch of Kėdainiai’s fire and rescue teams. The Kaunas emergency medical service was also notified. According to the Kėdainiai district municipality, seven fire trucks and a command vehicle are operating at the scene, supported by a bulldozer from the landfill company. Environmental protection specialists have been informed.

Preliminary reports indicate the fire covers roughly 30 square meters, primarily burning mixed waste such as plastic and paper. Authorities confirmed the blaze has been contained, with water supplied from an open source to sustain extinguishing operations. “We emphasize there is currently no danger to residents,” the municipality stated.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
