Lithuania’s probation service director turns himself in to police after armed domestic dispute
The head of Lithuania’s Probation Service, Romas Ostanavičius, has turned himself in to police after leaving his home armed following a domestic conflict, LRT.lt reports.
Vilnius police confirmed on Monday that Ostanavičius arrived at a police station of his own accord in the afternoon and was sober at the time. Officers confiscated his firearm, which was legally owned. Authorities will now clarify the circumstances of the incident.
Police were first alerted to the situation on Sunday at 21:18 after receiving a report of a domestic dispute. Ostanavičius, who holds the rank of internal service general, had left the residence with the weapon. A search was launched on Monday morning, but he later presented himself to officers.
Ostanavičius has served as director of the Probation Service since December 20, 2021.
