Lithuania’s Prosecutor General’s Office has terminated its pre-trial investigation into the November 2024 damage to undersea optical cables linking Lithuania and Sweden in the Baltic Sea, public broadcaster LRT reported Friday.

The decision follows confirmation that the cables were severed in waters falling under Sweden’s exclusive economic zone, meaning no harm was inflicted on Lithuanian jurisdiction. Prosecutors stated that precise geographic coordinates of the incident sites were critical in determining legal responsibility.

Investigations into the cable damage continue in Sweden and Finland, authorities noted.
