Lithuania holds first large-scale civilian evacuation drills
Lithuania conducted its first large-scale civilian evacuation exercises on Wednesday, testing public readiness for extreme situations, state broadcaster LRT reports.
The drills, held in multiple locations, focused on preparing residents for the critical first 72 hours of a crisis, when emergency services may be overwhelmed or delayed. Authorities emphasised that individuals must be self-sufficient during this period, with access to food, water, first aid, and essential documents.
Participants practiced organised evacuation procedures, including assembly at designated points and coordination with local emergency response teams. The exercises also highlighted the importance of pre-packed emergency kits containing medications, hygiene supplies, and communication devices.
Officials noted that while Lithuania has contingency plans for large-scale threats, public awareness and personal preparedness remain key to reducing risks during sudden disasters.
