Lithuanian coalition council to convene next Tuesday

The governing coalition’s council is expected to meet next Tuesday, according to an advisor to Prime Minister Inga Ruginienė, state news agency ELTA reported Wednesday.

Ignas Algirdas Dobrovolskas, an advisor to Ruginienė, initially told ELTA that the coalition council would gather at the government offices “next week,” later specifying the meeting would take place on Tuesday.

The agenda is likely to include discussion of last week’s first parliamentary vote on the Kapčiamiesčio polygon law, which passed with 102 votes in favour, 10 against, and 5 abstentions. Seven members of the opposition “Nemuno aušra” faction voted against the bill, alongside three lawmakers from the ruling Farmers and Greens Union.

Social Democrat leader Mindaugas Sinkevičius previously indicated the council would also address the political future of “Nemuno aušra,” which has faced accusations of serious legal violations. Meanwhile, Deputy Speaker Aušrinė Norkienė suggested unresolved disputes over deputy minister appointments may be revisited.
