The Lithuanian Ministry of Justice has signed a three-year lease for an Audi A6 to serve Minister Rita Tamašunienė and other senior officials, with monthly payments of €831, state news agency ELTA reports.

The total cost over 36 months, including maintenance, will reach €29,925—around €5,000 less than the current lease for the ministry’s existing vehicle, which expires in June. Officials stated the new contract was necessary due to the “permanent need” for such transport, particularly for Lithuania’s upcoming EU Council presidency duties.

“The ministry sought an economical, environmentally friendly, and safe vehicle that also meets protocol requirements for high-level meetings,” the ministry told ELTA. The 2025-model Audi replaces an older lease costing €940 per month.

The ministry currently owns one service car, a 2016 Kia Optima, and does not lease additional vehicles. Earlier reports by news portal Delfi revealed that Culture Minister Vaida Aleknavičienė had leased two cars—one for ministerial duties and another for her parliamentary work—using separate state budgets.
