Lithuanian PM tasks foreign minister with arranging meeting with Trump
Lithuanian Prime Minister Inga Ruginienė has instructed Foreign Minister Kęstutis Budrys to organise a high-level meeting with US President Donald Trump or Vice President J.D. Vance, according to sources cited by news portal Delfi.
A spokesperson for the Foreign Ministry, Kristina Belikova, neither confirmed nor denied the report in comments to Delfi, stating only that the ministry “actively works to arrange high-level meetings for Lithuania’s leaders in key capitals—this is in our national interest.” She did not address whether such a meeting would be feasible.
Prime Minister Ruginienė’s advisor, Ignas Dobrovolskas, told the portal that no US visit is currently planned but emphasised the importance of high-level contacts. “We highly value our strategic partners and their support for our national security. High-level engagement between Lithuania and the US is always significant and beneficial,” he said.
Ruginienė has recently taken a more active role in foreign policy, an area typically led by the president and foreign minister. She has previously expressed personal interest in the field.
