Lithuanian man charged with large-scale drug distribution and military theft
The Panevėžys Regional Prosecutor’s Office has referred a criminal case to court against a 27-year-old Vilnius resident accused of distributing large quantities of narcotics and stealing from a military unit, Lithuania’s General Prosecutor’s Office announced on Tuesday.
The suspect, identified only as A. S., was detained in Utena in summer 2025 after allegedly scattering dozens of doses of the synthetic drugs 4-MMC and 3-CMC in remote locations across the city. Authorities found an additional 36.5 grams of the substances in his rented vehicle, while a search of his home uncovered 0.87 grams of cocaine.
Investigators allege that roughly a month before his arrest, A. S. joined a closed social media group where he was recruited as a drug distributor—known in local slang as a “drop thrower.” Unidentified individuals sent him coordinates to hidden stashes of pre-packaged narcotics in Vilnius, which he then transported and concealed in various Lithuanian cities, relaying the new drop-off locations to organizers via encrypted messaging.
The case also revisits a 2024 theft from a military base in Jonava district, where A. S.—then an active-duty professional soldier—allegedly stole a night-vision device from an armory. The following day, he sold the equipment online under his partner’s name. Military police recovered the device and identified both buyer and seller.
Prosecutors had initially dropped the drug charges under a leniency provision but reopened the pre-trial investigation after the military theft came to light. Under Lithuanian law, theft from a secure facility carries a penalty of up to six years’ imprisonment, while large-scale drug distribution is punishable by 10 to 15 years.
The Panevėžys Regional Court will hear the case.
