Lithuania’s ethics watchdog clears Trakai district mayor over funding to association he previously belonged to
The Lithuanian State Service Ethics Commission (VTEK) has found no violation in Trakai District Mayor Andrius Šatevičius’ decision to allocate public funds to an association he was formerly a member of, LRT reports.
The investigation was launched after it emerged that in November last year, Šatevičius directed 2,625 euros from the mayor’s discretionary fund to the Trakai District Sports Association to purchase uniforms for the “Lentvaris Dragon Boat Team” men’s dragon boat crew. The mayor had been a member of the association until July 4, 2025.
In its ruling, VTEK emphasised that Šatevičius had terminated his membership—at his own request—more than four months before approving the funding. The commission stated it had “received no evidence” that the mayor had a direct or obvious private interest in allocating the funds to the team represented by the association.
As a result, VTEK concluded that Šatevičius did not breach the Law on Coordination of Public and Private Interests.
