Five young people convicted for illegal possession and distribution of drugs
A district court in Lithuania has convicted five young adults aged 19–23 for the illegal possession and distribution of narcotic and psychotropic substances, LRT reports.
The Panevėžys District Court ruled that four young men and one woman from Pasvalys had acquired various narcotics—including cannabis, psychotropic mushrooms, tablets, and crystalline substances—for personal use, while some also distributed them. Three defendants, who both used and sold the drugs, received custodial sentences ranging from one year and four months to two years and eight months, with enforcement deferred for two to three years.
The remaining two, who purchased the substances without intent to distribute, were given restricted freedom sentences without intensive supervision. They were also ordered to seek employment or register with the Employment Service, participate in drug addiction prevention programs, and refrain from using psychoactive substances.
All five were fined between €750 and €2,000, payable to the Crime Victims’ Compensation Fund. The verdict is not yet final and may be appealed to a higher court.
